PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: My Digital Studio

My Digital Studio
$24.95
#130646

My Digital Studio

I'm in love, I'm in love. Stampin' Up! have put two of my all time favourite things together…Crafting and Digital Graphics Design.

When I visited my upline Sue Madex for a class about MDS, I was hooked immediately. When I returned home I downloaded it and the content that comes with it is amazing. There is a combination of Current and Retired Stamps, Papers, Embellishments and easy to use templates for all sorts of projects.

The talk I here mostly about MDS is mainly around scrapbooking. It's true, there is nothing quite like seeing your special events commemorated in photography then brought to life with other elements that give the whole story. But, I am finding there is a bigger picture (excuse the pun)!

My creative urges have come alive once again in a whole new direction. It started with my christmas market goodies, boxes, cards, decorated bags, sweets holders and so much more. They were a great hit with orders for more to be completed in time for christmas.

I wasn't prepared to stop there and I am now working on Subway Art and Typography Canvas' to sell at the next market and on line. I have done some conventional size A4 (210x297 mm) prints to go into frames and have prints ready to mount onto wood sheets in A3 size (420x594mm). I will soon add pictures of these.

So, what do you get for your $24.95? LEARN MORE

FLAG IT FRIDAY: Craft Spaces

Good morning family, friends and crafters,

This was my work space prior to moving to smaller digs. Using a folding table was a nice cheap
way to get the perfect size desk with everything in easy reaching.

Having the perfect crafting space is just as important as what is created in that space. If your space
flows creating can be just as fluid and the secret to the perfect space is organization. If your precious time in 'your space' is spent just finding things then the creative process can be difficult.
The Creating process is not necessarily a tidy one.

I have often admired other crafters spaces and can spend a great deal of time on the net looking at peoples blogs, Pinterest and Facebook finding that one little trick that I haven't thought of.

It is important to be able to claim a space that is solely for you. I have experienced  many levels of this from dragging boxes out of the cupboards and using the dining room which can't be used for days as it is covered scrap paper, embellishments, cutting tools etc. I have also had a whole spare bedroom dedicated to being 'my space' which soon was packed up to make room for my teenage son to return home to recover from a motor vehicle accident.

Dedicating certain inner spaces in 'your space' is important.
This was my Big Shot station which I now use an Ikea kitchen
trolley (I'll leave that pic for one of my organization
blog days).
My first thought was to pack it into boxes and put it into storage until I was able to clear my head through this traumatic time as we were also mourning the death of my 19 year old son who was also in the same motor vehicle accident. But I knew that crafting was a huge part of my personality and when there was a day I was 'feeling it' again I needed to be able to walk in, sit down and let the flow begin.

We had a small room at the back of the house which was not being used and when I say small I mean small! Not even big enough to swing a cat. So best of our abilities MDH and I arranged furniture, boxes, trolleys and miscellaneous items. As predicted I didn't use that space for nearly 8 months and then one day I walked in and found myself again.

I am fortunate enough to have a wonderful husband who acknowledges that my crafting is important to me and encourages me to do so. A craft room is akin to the man zone aka the shed and we all deserve that space that is truly ours.

Getting Inspiration is not always easy so keeping some of my online projects and my market prototype projects in view always helps and adds a décor element to your space-it doesn't have to be all business. Functionality is important but it doesn't mean it can't pretty as well.
Inspiration can come from the shape of an object, the way the colours are used or the topic itself.
Happy crafting,

June

MAKE IT MONDAY Project: MDS Shadow Box Photo Frame

Hello Crafters...

The finished project hanging in my living room.
I have fallen in love with Stampin' Up!'s MDS. An new straight away that I would be able to pick up my love of scrapbooking again. Since the age of digital photos I have done very little in the way of scrapbooking as I never seem to get my pics printed. Im excited that i can create a virtual page and just go straight to my photo library on my computer and just add the pics right there and then. I can also edit them by cropping, recolouring, resizing etc.

This is how it appears on the computer screen.

I printed 3 copies on 12x12" Whisper White Card Stock on an A3 printer. Using one of the copies as the background and using the other  2 copies to cut out elements. I attached them with Stampin' Dimensionals to lift the images off the page giving a 3D look. I also added Pearl Basic Jewels and a large white Brad (retired stock).

I cut the bunting out and instead of place directly over the top as I did with the word SON I placed it in a different direction which also helped with the 3D look.

I also cut out a few of the picture windows and lifted them. I think this is a very fitting memorial for my son, I wanted to reconise that he was so much to so many people and not just a son was lost but a Step Son, Brother, Step Brother, Nephew, Friend etc . It'll be a year on the 24th Feb 2014 and not a day goes by that I don't miss him.
